Spain have been crowned 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup champions after defeating DPR Korea on penalties following a tense goalless final in Łódź.

Spain Lift World Cup Trophy

Spain are celebrating another major achievement in women’s football after overcoming defending champions DPR Korea in the final of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026.

Neither side could find the breakthrough during 90 minutes or extra time, with the match finishing 0-0 after 120 minutes. Spain eventually held their nerve in the penalty shootout to secure the trophy.

The victory gives Spain their second Spain U-20 Women’s World Cup title, following their previous triumph in 2022.

Spain Survive Final-Day Pressure

The final brought together two of the strongest teams in the tournament.

DPR Korea entered the match as defending champions and were chasing a record fourth U-20 Women’s World Cup title, while Spain were attempting to reclaim the trophy they won four years earlier.

Neither team managed to break the deadlock, turning the final into a battle of concentration and patience. After 120 goalless minutes, the championship had to be decided from the penalty spot.

Spain’s Impressive Tournament Run

Spain had been one of the tournament's most productive teams before reaching the final.

They opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Nigeria, followed by an extraordinary 11-0 win against New Caledonia and a 3-1 victory over China. That gave Spain a perfect nine points from three group matches and a remarkable 16 goals scored and just one conceded.

Their knockout run continued with a 2-0 victory over Portugal before they edged Brazil 1-0 in the quarter-finals.

Spain then defeated Italy 2-0 in the semi-final, with Daniela Agote involved in both goals and Pau Comendador among the scorers.

Comendador Leads Spain’s Attack

Paula Comendador was one of Spain's standout performers throughout the tournament.

The forward entered the final as the competition's leading scorer with six goals, according to tournament statistics available before the championship match.

For more Sport updates, her goals were part of a Spain attack that produced 16 goals during the group stage alone. That attacking output, combined with their defensive record, helped Spain reach the final without losing a match.

Another Major Spanish Success

The U-20 triumph adds another major women's youth title to Spain's growing international record.

FIFA noted before the final that Spain had already established themselves as a major force across women's football, with titles at U-17, U-20 and senior level.

Now, after surviving one of the toughest finals imaginable, Spain can celebrate again. La Roja are world champions once more. 🇪🇸🏆
