Chioma Ude, founder of AFRIFF, received a prestigious award at Oman’s Dhofar International Film Festival, celebrating her global impact on African cinema.
Chioma Ude, the visionary behind the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and Africa Film and Content Market (AFCM), was recently honoured at the Dhofar International Film Festival in Oman. The award, presented by the Oman Film Society, recognised her lifelong dedication to elevating African cinema on the world stage.
Bridging Continents Through Film
Ude’s journey to Oman began when she met Omani filmmaker Ahmed Othman, sparking a dialogue that would strengthen ties between Nigeria and Oman. Their collaboration led to Othman’s role on the AFRIFF jury and, in turn, Ude’s invitation to the Dhofar festival.
The exchange highlighted how festivals can serve as platforms for cultural diplomacy, allowing filmmakers from diverse backgrounds to share stories, insights, and opportunities.
Recognition of Global Contributions
During the ceremony, Ude received an award that underscored her influence beyond Africa. Her work in film markets, production, and industry development has helped create pathways for African talent worldwide.
She expressed humility, noting that her visit was “a challenge” rather than a casual trip, reflecting her commitment to fostering new partnerships.

Ude met Anwar bin Khamis Al Ruzaiqi, Chairman of the Oman Film Society, whose leadership is pivotal in expanding international opportunities for Omani filmmakers. Their discussion focused on collaborative ventures and co‑production prospects.
Additionally, Ude connected with Egyptian actress and producer Bushra Ahmed Razza, strengthening links between African and Middle Eastern film professionals and opening doors for joint projects.
Looking Ahead: AFRIFF 2026
The 15th edition of AFRIFF will run from 1–7 November 2026, featuring a mix of filmmakers, producers, distributors, and investors. The event will also host the AFCM, a dedicated market platform for business, partnerships, and content acquisition.
Ude’s recognition at Dhofar reinforces the festival’s role in nurturing professional development, investment, and cultural exchange—essential elements for the growth of Africa’s film industry on a global scale.
